Hiring Developers in Poland and Eastern Europe: A Guide for US Companies

US companies hire senior developers in Poland for three reasons: a large senior talent pool, working hours that overlap with the US East Coast, and lower total cost than a US hire. This guide covers the three legal ways to hire, what a senior developer costs, and how long hiring takes.

Three ways to hire a developer in Poland

Comparison of three ways to hire a developer in Poland: B2B contract, Employer of Record and your own entity

1. B2B contract

The developer runs a sole proprietorship and invoices your US company monthly. This suits most senior engineers and gives the fastest start. You need a services agreement with a clear IP clause.

2. Employer of Record (EOR)

A local company employs the developer on your behalf and handles payroll, taxes and benefits. This suits developers who want a full employment contract. You pay a monthly EOR fee on top of the salary.

3. Your own entity

You open a Polish company (sp. z o.o.) and hire directly. This makes sense once you have 10 or more people in the country, but it takes setup time, local accounting and HR.

Most senior developers in Poland already work on B2B and often prefer it, because they keep more of their income. If a candidate wants an employment contract, an Employer of Record lets you hire without opening an entity.

How much does a senior developer cost in Poland?

Senior developers on B2B usually invoice 20,000–33,000 PLN a month; on an employment contract, gross salaries run 18,000–30,000 PLN a month (Freenance, 2026). That is roughly $65,000–$105,000 a year. Rates vary by stack, seniority and whether the role is remote-first for a US company.

On top of salary, budget for the recruiter fee (a one-time 14–20% of annual salary with OnHires) or the EOR fee if you use one.

How long does it take?

With OnHires, first candidates arrive within 7–10 days, and a position is filled in 21 days on average from the briefing call to an accepted offer. Plan for a notice period on top: many developers in Poland have one to three months' notice in their current job.

Hiring timeline with OnHires: first candidates in 7–10 days, offer accepted in 21 days on average, then a 1–3 month notice period

Most senior developers in Poland already work on B2B. The fastest hire is usually a well-written B2B agreement, not a new entity.

Hiring without a local entity

You do not need a Polish company to hire in Poland. On B2B, the developer invoices you directly. On EOR, the provider is the legal employer. OnHires can recruit the developer and, if needed, employ them through our Employer of Record or Contractor of Record service.

What to check before you sign

  • IP assignment: the contract must transfer the rights to the code to your company.
  • Working hours: agree on the overlap with your US team.
  • Notice period and start date.
  • Equipment, security and data access rules.

Where a recruiter helps

A recruiter who works in the Polish market saves you the sourcing, the screening and the salary benchmarking. OnHires hires in Poland, Romania and across Europe. You can hire one developer pay-per-hire, or get a pre-screened shortlist through Vetted devs. Every pay-per-hire placement includes a 3-month free replacement.
