Some principal characteristics of recruiting in Cloud Computing

Vasco

What may come to a dabbler’s mind when they hear the word “cloud”? Some kind of atmospheric phenomenon? It is true that this word also has such a meaning. But I had in mind something completely different, the phenomenon directly related to modern IT technologies.

I suggest reading about this in the article as well as about cloud computing, in general, and about finding necessary workers possessing unique skills to maintain the field.

What is Cloud Computing?

What is Cloud computing

As I have already specified, from the point of view of today’s IT technology, cloud computing is the place where data is stored and from where it can be managed.

Cloud computing provides IT resources over the global computer network. In other words, Cloud Computing comprises services available and delivered over the Internet or via the “cloud”. Through Cloud Computing systems, businesses and individuals can come at digital information via the Internet from anywhere without needing physical servers.

Cloud Computing services span databases, storage, networks, servers, analytics, and software. Their application, therefore, can significantly diminish the worth of IT overheads and operating expenses and avoid investing heavily in local IT departments. In addition, Cloud Computing technologies protect enterprises’ confidential data.

The basic types of cloud services

Types of cloud services

Cloud services can be divided into three basic types:

  • Software as a service, SaaS. These are hosted, on-demand services supplying accession to business applications.
  • Infrastructure as a service, IaaS. These are virtualized computing resources granted over the Internet, often offering storage.
  • Platform as a service, PaaS. These are web services and application deployment in the cloud.

Cloud types

Types of clouds

I would specify three samples of clouds, each of which has its own distinctive peculiarities and functions:

  • Public clouds

These clouds supply their services on servers and storage on the Internet. As a rule, they are run and maintained by third parties, which control all the clouds’ hardware, software, and infrastructure. Customers reach the services through accounts. Usually, the use of such clouds is carried out for a fee.

  • Private clouds

Private clouds are usually reserved for a specific clientele, such as a specific enterprise. The company’s data center may host a private cloud computing service. Most private cloud computing services are given on a private network. Thus, if to generalize, these clouds are networks that ensure hosted services.

  • Hybrid clouds

Such clouds are a combination of public and private services. Due to this combination, the clouds guarantee their users greater flexibility in application and allow them to optimize the infrastructure. Besides, they present an opportunity to enlarge the degree of customer security.

The pros and cons of cloud computing

Pros and cons of cloud computing

So far, I can highlight a few serious pluses of the industry:

  1. the ability to utilize the software from any device using your own app or browser;
  2. the possibility to fully transfer your files and settings to other devices;
  3. the opportunity to create backup copies of your data, which will remain available in case of the hard drive failure;
  4. the ability to save money by abandoning expensive and cumbersome stationary service centers and IT departments serving data;
  5. the opportunity to quickly update the software since all updates are provided directly via the Internet.

I suppose you will not dispute my assertion that any, even the coolest, technology is not without a certain number of weaknesses. Among the drawbacks of cloud computing, I would like to mention the following:

  • Data security

Although cloud computing services are constantly working on strengthening security measures, the level of data security still needs to improve. Encryption protects client data, but if the encryption key is somehow lost, the data disappears or becomes the property of third parties.

  • Human factor

Many people maintain and monitor the stored information and manipulate it in one way or another through a particular portal. This means that even with their high professionalism, unintentional errors can occur and spread throughout the system.

  • External factor

For all the reliability of cloud services’ functioning, they are not immune from the influence of external factors like natural disasters.

Specifics of hiring a cloud specialist

Hiring cloud computing specialist

Hiring a cloud professional has its specific peculiarities. So, during the recruiting process, to make the right choice, it is worth paying attention to some essential aspects:

Online assessment

A competent and necessary tactical approach is to conduct online candidate testing. In addition to other relevant skills and qualifications, the candidate must demonstrate the knowledge and skills required to work with cloud technologies. Cloud Skills Tests come in different difficulty levels, and you can choose the level of difficulty you want. Such tests usually provide statistical results that will assist you in deciding the most prospective applicant.

Test progress monitoring

The use of image or video proctoring will significantly enhance the effectiveness of testing. In this case, you will have a unique possibility to observe how the applicant copes with the test tasks in real-time mode. This step will make it even easier for you to make the right choice.

Interviewing

Interviewing is an essential element of any recruitment process. In particular, the interview will help you evaluate the candidate’s must-have non-technical abilities. What is more, it will help to gain additional information about the candidate’s awareness and experience in cloud computing.

For example, I guess it would be reasonable to ask the candidate about the following:

  • the types of data utilized in cloud computing;
  • the service modules used in cloud computing;
  • the open-source cloud data;
  • the protocol for maintaining security and privacy when transferring data to the cloud.
